  15. <p>     DIED. EUGENE T. MALESKA, 77, crossword-puzzle editor; in Daytona
  16. Beach, Florida. Maleska spent more than three decades in the
  17. New York City public school system, retiring in 1973 as a superintendent.
  18. But during those years, he pursued a second career as a puzzlemaker,
  19. and in 1977 he became the crossword editor of the New York Times,
  20. challenging a global following with clues in two dimensions,
  21. such as the 16-letter phrase meaning "campaigner Clinton, tunefully"
  22. (answer: ARKANSAS TRAVELER, solved by its subject the weekend
  23. before his Inauguration).
